Charters and Grants in the British Museum

In the British Museum there are a considerable number of charters referring to the transfer of land in Dunham, from which we learn the names of some of the land owners in those days, and other inhabitants who witnessed the deeds of conveyance. These "Additional Charters" were presented to the B. M. in 1841 by Mr. S. Newsman.

5380. Temp. Henry III (1216-1272). Charter by which John Bonsergaunt of Dunham son of Radulfus de Draiton granted Henry son of Alexander, his superior, a moiety of the fifth part of a toft for all time. Witnesses:—Will Mariscall, Peter son of Salamonus and others.

5381. Temp ditto. Charter by which Richard son of Oliver de Dunham quit claimed to Barnaldus son of Armaldus de Baguille and Matilda his wife all the right he had in one and a half rood of arable land.

5382. Temp ditto. John son of Ada de Dunham granted to Alanus Trew of the same place half an acre of arable land in Dunham. Witnesses: Roger son of Mariot, Robert Crispe.

5383. Temp ditto. . Reginald son of Ede de Dunham granted to Robert his son half an acre of land in Wimpton-fields: Witness, John son of Ada.

5388. Temp ditto. Matilda, Alicia, Agnes, Idonia, daughters of Henry Sale of Dunham, granted to William Netched of Wimpton half an acre of arable land in Wympton-field.
