BULWELL.
Four essays towards a history of the manor and township

FOREWORD

The four essays in this little book were delivered as a course of lectures on the history of Bulwell during the winter of 1946-7, in the Lecture Hall at the Northern Branch Library in Nottingham. Each of the lecturers approached his subject in his own way, but his subject matter was agreed on at the beginning so as to preserve a rough chronological sequence and avoid overlapping. Mr. Bailey, in the final lecture of the series, adds comments which serve to link the series into an approach to unity.

The work is not offered as a history of Bulwell—that remains to be written; but it is hoped that enough of milestones and signposts are provided for the future historian of the most interesting, and in some ways, unique manor and township of Bulwell in Nottinghamshire.
